The Privacy and Other Legislation Amendment Act 2024 introduces new transparency obligations for organisations that use Artificial Intelligence or other automated processes to make significant decisions about individuals.
From 10 December 2026, organisations subject to the Privacy Act will be required to disclose:
- Whether significant decisions are made using AI or other automated decision-making (ADM)
- The types of personal information used by those systems
- The kinds of significant decisions being made
These new requirements reflect a broader regulatory focus on responsible AI governance and greater transparency for consumers.
